Clicking the OpenVPN GUI icon on desktop will just open up an icon on the icon tray on taskbar at your monitor's bottom-right (pointed by red arrow). Double left-click it will bring up nothing. You have to right-click on the icon and its interface will show up. It is just Settings and Exit. OpenVPN GUI is a graphical frontend for OpenVPN running on Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8. It creates an icon in the notification area from which you can control OpenVPN to start/stop your VPN tunnels, view the log and do other useful things. Navigate to the Download folder. Copy the client.ovpn file exported from the OpenVPN server to “C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config” folder. Open up the file in a text editor. Update the remote line (4 th line in the file). Replace the IP address with the yDNS hostname. Save the file. Right click the OpenVPN icon on the desktop and click Run as Start OpenVPN with administrator privileges and click with right on the OpenVPN tray icon, select your favorite location and click on "Connect". 6 Once the connection has been successfully established, the OpenVPN icon turns green.
Once you have set OpenVPN GUI to run as an administrator, then double-click on the OpenVPN GUI icon to start the program. This will create an icon on your Taskbar, in the Notification area. The icon is circled in blue in this screenshot. Notice that the "color" of the icon is red, meaning that OpenVPN is not connected.
